Paint to Protect’s Coatings Provide A Spray-On Thermal Barrier

Spray Foam Distributors of NE Inc., based in Lincoln, N.H., has become an official distributor of Paint to Protect’s spray-on thermal barrier coatings. Currently, they are the only distributor in New England to offer both the company’s DC315 fire retardant foam paint and DC333 fireproof paint.

“We are extremely pleased to offer Paint to Protect’s coatings,” said George Spanos, the president of Spray Foam Distributors of NE. “Not only are they more cost effective than other products currently available, they are far easier to work with. They can be sprayed with a small sprayer since the material can pass easily through a .019 tip. Paint to Protect’s website describes their DC315 coating as a “Warnock Hersey listed and rated product which has passed certified testing as both a (UL-1715) 15 minute ‘thermal barrier’ and the NFPA 286 (AC-377 standards) as an ‘ignition barrier.’” The site also points out that the product offers easy cleanup since it is water based and also doesn’t require any complicated mixing. It is a non toxic material with low vapors, low VOCs, and no formaldehyde.

The site states that “DC333 is a unique fire resistant coating proven to withstand extreme temperatures (approximately 2000° F [1093° C]) and resist fires for over ywo hours. [It] is an intumescent coating to provide fire resistance for a wide variety of materials such as sheetrock, wood, concrete, sheet metal, foam, composite panels, fiberglass, and carbon graphite with one coat.” The product “is water based acrylic paint, which is non-toxic, non-hazardous, has no smell and is applied like standard house paint.” Spanos also points out that “DC333 is one of the only spray applied products accepted by the Maine state fire marshal for use as a thermal barrier over foam in the state.”
